Various methods have been described for testing for upper respiratory viruses in the nose. In the following, we will describe two methods.

• Nasopharyngeal swab, which collects material from the back of the nasopharynx.

• Swabbing from the front part of the nose, which is less invasive and collects material from the nasal cavity and the nasal turbinate.
